Geology at Finchampstead Ridges

Meet at the National Trust’s Simon’s Wood car park on the north side of Wellingtonia Avenue, RG45 6AE. A walk of about 2 miles on good footpaths (which may be muddy in places) to look at the varied geology of Finchampstead Ridges – Eocene beds of sands, clays and silts, capped by gravel. The Ridges have panoramic views across the Blackwater valley towards Hampshire and the Hogsback Ridge in Surrey.
