This talk explores the patterns of life at hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor, where chemosynthesis sustains colonies of deep-sea animals that often form partnerships with microbes. Because of their island-like nature, hydrothermal vents provide an ideal system to investigate processes of dispersal and evolution in the deep ocean that covers most of our world.<\/p>\n
