{"id":7351,"date":"2025-03-22T12:08:59","date_gmt":"2025-03-22T12:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/?p=7351"},"modified":"2025-11-07T12:16:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T12:16:16","slug":"wallingford-mosses-22nd-march-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/wallingford-mosses-22nd-march-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Wallingford Mosses &#8211; 22nd March 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saturday 22 March 2025 was not as chilling a day as hardy members recalled from the previous Moss Walk at Greenham Common and thirteen individuals, led by Sean O&#8217;Leary, started from\u00a0St. Leonard\u2019s \u00a0Church in Wallingford, to look at some typical urban bryophytes. The difference between acrocarpous and pleurocarpous mosses was noted and some examples of each demonstrated.\u00a0 Members then explored the banks of the River Thames, with some riverine species, notably <em>Cinclidotus fontinaloides<\/em> and <em>Hygroamblystegium fluviatile<\/em> still hanging on, despite the polluted waters.\u00a0 The latter is rare in the South of England, although found in several places along the Thames.
