{"id":302,"date":"2009-06-02T14:17:16","date_gmt":"2009-06-02T19:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/?p=302"},"modified":"2009-07-18T02:44:18","modified_gmt":"2009-07-18T07:44:18","slug":"farley-hill-2nd-june-2009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/farley-hill-2nd-june-2009\/","title":{"rendered":"Farley Hill &#8211; 2nd June 2009"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/farley-hill-natural-history-028.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-352\" title=\"farley-hill-natural-history-028\" src=\"https:\/\/rdnhs.org.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/farley-hill-natural-history-028-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"farley-hill-natural-history-028\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Eight members met on a lovely sunny evening and explored the lanes and riverside paths along the Blackwater to its confluence with the Whitewater, then along the Broadwater, returning past Sandpit Farm and Jouldings Farm.<span> <\/span>The late spring flowers expected were seen, with honeysuckle and elderflowers prominent in the woodland areas.<span> <\/span>The riverside provided the most memorable sight, hundreds of demoiselle damselflies shimmering among the vegetation.<span> <\/span>The resident swans had produced four cygnets and the birders were satisfied by sighting reed buntings and reed warblers.<span> <\/span>The rivers, which were surprisingly full after a period of dry weather, had a water crowfoot in abundance and the common bulrush (<em>Scirpus lacustris) <\/em>was very conspicuous, particularly in the Broadwater.
