Recent changes to the grazing policy have greatly improved the habitat for chalk wildflowers\, including a good range of orchid species. The slope is very steep\, but we will ascend slowly\, examining the plants as we go. The walk will be about 1.5 miles but 140m vertically. Beacon Hill car park is signed from the A34 junction for Tot Hill Services. Weather permitting\, there is a possible visit to a nearby nature reserve in the afternoon. DESCRIPTION:Meet at the Highwayman Inn car park at Exlade Street (SU 65918 81885) for an informal walk of about 4 miles north of Woodcote. There is a Woodland Trust beech woodland to explore as well as fields and hedgerows\, hopefully with late autumn colour and fungi. Some parts may be muddy and there are some steep steps to negotiate but no stiles.
