DESCRIPTION:Leader: Robert Stallard \nThis is the fourth year where Savernake has been an option\, hopefully fourth time lucky! \nThe Grand Avenue starts at a sharp left turn from the A4 just before the hill down to Marlborough (SU 20988 68342). Drive 0.6 miles along the pot-holed avenue and park at the first small car park on the right (SU 21746 67571). Although 35 miles away it should only take about 50 minutes from west Reading using M4 and A4. We will look at a number of named veteran trees (mainly oak) for which the forest is famous. It is a gentle walk of about 3 ½ miles. Some places muddy and slippery. Lunch will be available at the Bear Hotel at Hungerford on the A4 (RG17 0EL\, SU 33901 68903) just by the roundabout to the town centre. The hotel would like our lunch orders in advance\, the menu is available here. Please register your interest here by Saturday 15th with lunch choices and indicate whether you would like to accept or can offer lift(s) – as it is quite a long journey.

DESCRIPTION:Leader: John Sharpe \nMeet at the Fisherman’s Cottage Kennet Side Reading RG1 3DW. Entrance to the car park is from Canal Way off Orts Road (SU 72674 73473)\, only accessible by car from the west end of Orts Road. The car park will be open at 10am. The area is well served by buses\, or it is about a 20 minute walk from the station. The best route is to walk from the station via Duke Street and then follow the Kennet towpath downstream to the pub. \nAdvance food orders are not required as the pub owner is food oriented and used to dealing with groups coming in. \nThe theme of the walk will be urban community gardens\, it will be around 3 miles and take in the Kennet Mouth\, if the Loddon Lillies are in flower\, Newtown Community Garden\, Reading Old Cemetery originally a garden Cemetery now managed for wild life\, where we will meet Theresa Verney Brooks\, Erleigh Road Community Garden\, a small garden managed for wild life\, John’s garden\, and a garden that was the Reading school Headmaster’s garden which is being re-modelled for NHS staff\, where we will be shown around by Beth Scott. DESCRIPTION:Leader: Alan Holmes \nMeet at pay and display car park off Station Road in Goring. We walk past meadows to Goring Railway Bridge\, approx 1.5 km along well made footpaths down to and then along the river bank. We will look for Common Clubtail exuvae and hopefully adults. Bring a picnic lunch and eat on the riverbank\, as this increases the chance of seeing dragonflies. Return by same route

DESCRIPTION:Leader: Jan Haseler \nMeet in the National Trust car park on the right hand side of the road at the top of Streatley Hill. The Holies has some of the finest Chalk grassland in Berkshire. Enjoy drifts of Wild Thyme\, Dropwort\, Squinancywort\, Chalk Milkwort\, Common Spotted-orchid\, Common Rock-rose and many more species. Hunt for the elusive Early Gentian. The site has very steep slopes. \n****** UPDATE 7th June ******* \nWe have decided to do the walk as originally planned as the weather forecast turned out better than was expected yesterday. It will probably end a little earlier than usual in case of midday rain.

DESCRIPTION:Leaders: Julia Cooper & Ian Duddle \nMeet at the Pumping Station entrance off Deptford Lane\, east of Greywell village (RG29 1BS\, ///lines.erupted.detergent). There is limited parking along the access road and in Deptford Lane\, or at the Fox and Goose nearby if you eat there afterwards. The Reserves Officer will give an introduction and access to the marshy northern part of this fenland reserve\, we will then walk round the main reserve and back along the River Whitewater\, about 1.5 miles.  We should see orchids and other wetland plants and a variety of birds\, butterflies and other insects.
