SUMMARY:Geology at Nettlebed Common
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Prof Peter Worsley. Meet near the bus shelter on The Green\, to look at the geology of the Common (SU702868). Nettlebed is a small outlier of the Lambeth Formation above the Chalk. It is an abandoned industrial landscape\, from which chalk\, clay\, sand and gravel were formerly extracted. A bottle oven for the manufacture of bricks and tiles survives. The chalk was mined and subsidence features are common. For further details please use our contact form.

DESCRIPTION:Meet at the car park of the Flower Pot Hotel\, Aston (SU784842)\, for a walk of about 3 miles\, followed by an optional lunch at the hotel. The walk will follow footpaths through fields near Aston and along part of the Thames Path. If approaching on the A4130 from the Henley direction\, drive past Remenham Church Lane\, before turning left onto Aston Lane. We do not need to book in advance at the hotel\, but if you have any queries\, the leader can be contacted via out contact form.
