Ladle Hill and Newbury Peregrines
Saturday July 4 2020 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
Park at the top of the hill, by the side of the minor road to Ashley Warren (area postcode RG28 7QH SU492565). We shall walk westwards along the Wayfarers Walk for about 1 mile across an area with arable plants and downland birds to the rich chalk grassland of Ladle Hill. Leaders: Sarah White and Julia Cooper.
This field trip will start at 10:30 if up to 5 members book, or at 10:15 and 10:45 if there is greater demand. The 2 groups would walk to and from Ladle Hill separately. Members would be on the hill fort at the same time but under the guidance for 4th July would not be permitted to congregate together. Finish between 1 and 1:30pm, or bring a picnic and explore for longer. For members interested in the Newbury peregrines, Ken White has kindly offered to be at the viewing point after the walk to point out the chicks, which will have fledged by then. He will be available to give details at the start of the walk. Meet on the top floor of Sainsbury’s superstore car park in Newbury town centre RG14 5AB from 2pm. You will need to bring your own binoculars or telescope and be prepared to wait a little while as the birds don’t always show immediately.
To book the field trip (maximum two places) and/or peregrine viewing, please send your provisional booking via the contact form on this web site before the evening of Thursday 2nd July, indicating if you would like to come on the earlier or later walk (or either). Julia will then confirm whether or not your booking has been successful by email or phone on Friday
